Our history

Innovation runs deep.

AMV have been forging craftsmanship with innovation for five generations. We proudly offer the best engineering, manufacturing, testing, installation services, and heavy machinery for tunneling and infrastructure on the market.

In 1860, the company’s founder, Gabriel T. Andersen, moved to the south-western coastal town of Flekkefjord to offer his metal work and forging skills to, a then, booming tanning industry. It soon grew, and Gabriel T. Andersen’s first major investment, a state of the art lathe, cost more than a medium-sized farm.

It was worth it, and laid the foundation for what has now become more than 160 years of proud industrial achievements. The first major change of pace came in 1941, when the founder’s grandson, Peder Andersen Sr. took over. Investments were made, and the company soon moved up from doing maintenance and basic mechanical work to start developing and producing its own line of products – mostly parts for V-belt machines, woodworking machinery, Spiro parts and small hydraulic cylinders.

“Behind every finished product we deliver, there’s solid craftsmanship.”

In 1960, AMV moved to a larger and more efficient location in Flekkefjord, and by the end of the decade, production had grown to include spare parts for the construction industry – an industry where AMV is now a major contributor.

In 1977, the company moved to its present location, a 14.000 square meter facility on the outskirts of Flekkefjord. A year later, the 4th generation, Per Gunnar Andersen took over the company and presented the world’s first computer controlled tunnel rig to the market. The first in a series that grew to include shotcrete units, working platforms, grouting units and a wide range of specialized equipment. AMV’s range of construction units has remained the backbone of the company ever since, and is still market leading.

“Behind every engineering service we complete, there’s thoroughness and creativity.”

1978 also marked AMV’s first take on the offshore industry. AMV’s innovative range of pumps, cylinders, HPUs, drilling equipment, cranes and cherry pickers has gained praise from a large number of major service companies. In 2010 Peder Andersen took the position as CEO, making him the fifth generation Andersen to carry on the legacy. As of 2020, AMV employs about 225 people; 175 of which are based at our main facilities in Flekkefjord, Norway, and 50 people spread across our two subsidiaries in Sweden.

“Behind every innovation we choose to present, there’s proudness.”
